10 Ways To Spark More Joy In Your Life This Spring

Health is more than just about what’s on your plate or how often you workout. One of the main essentials for your health and wellbeing is joy.

One of the biggest causes for disease and bodily issues is stress. Many of us suffer from gut health issues, poor immunity, skin issues, brain fog, sugar cravings, unexplained weight gain, etc. due to stress. Stress can have major impacts on your overall health.

Lowering your stress levels is key to better health but it can be hard to reduce stress in your life. There are many things you can do to begin eliminating stress and one of those is by doing more activities that spark joy.

When was the last time you were so engaged in an activity that you didn't stop to think about your do lists, check your phone or worry about something else?

When you are fully engaged in an activity that you enjoy, the hormone dopamine is released. This hormone can help to regulate your nervous system. It can help your body naturally react to stress in a calmer way. By participating in activities that spark joy and make you forget about the outside world, you will be helping your body reduce stress and learn to deal with stress better long term.

I have created a list of 10 activities to try this Spring to help spark more joy in your life.

a coffee/matcha walk with a friend

Grab a coffee or matcha and head out on a morning hike or a walk at a park. This gets you moving your body in nature while enjoying your favorite drink and chatting with a loved one. It's is the ultimate habit stacking move!

take your workout outdoors

This is one of my favorite new personal health and wellness habits. This habit gets you moving your body outdoors in the sunshine which helps to reduce stress. Plus, you might find that working out outdoors is much more enjoyable and motivating.

start gardening

You don't have to be a "gardener" or have a large space to garden. Some flowers, fruits, vegetables and herbs can grow in a pot outdoors/indoors or on a windowsill. Spending time in nature and working with your hands in the garden is something that can spark joy. You can also look into local community gardens if you can’t have one at your home.

give your morning drink a Spring time twist

Try blending some strawberries into your milk and adding it to your coffee or matcha. This is such a fun way to make your mornings a little sweeter. I also recommend checking out a local thrift shop and finding yourself a new cup to put your morning drink in.

Sometimes a new cup for your morning matcha or coffee can help spark joy in the morning.

buy yourself flowers or put together a flower arrangement

Flowers in the home are a wonderful addition to spark more joy. If you haven't been to U-Pick flower farm where you get to cut your own flowers, I definitely recommend it. This is such a fun and joyous activity.

go to your local library

This is something I do weekly. There is something so nostalgic to me about browsing the library for new books whether it’s for a cookbook, poetry book, a novel or a fun topic that I am currently interested in learning more about.

try a new recipe

Make a goal for yourself to try a new fun and delicious healthy recipe every week. I also recommend trying a 'new to you' fruit or vegetable to play around with too!

connect with someone you haven't seen in a while

Community is so important for sparking more joy and reducing stress in your life. Call or text a friend you haven't seen in a while and catch up!

write down one highlight from your day everyday

This one habit can help you become more present in your life as well as help you find more enjoyment in your everyday life. It's also quite enjoyable to look back on your list in the future and recall those memories.
