5 Fiber Rich Foods To Promote Natural Glowing Skin
Fiber is essential to natural healthy glowing skin. Since fiber is essential for healthy digestion, it is also essential for healthy glowing skin. A healthy gut microbiome is essential for healthy brain function, blood sugar balance, healthy immunity, heart health, energy and skin health. When your gut microbiome is functioning properly you will notice your skin is naturally brighter, hydrated and glowing.
When it comes to eating fiber for naturally glowing skin, as well as to feel better all over, it is important to focus on whole food sources of fiber. Think whole fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, grains, leafy greens, etc. Below are 5 of my favorite plant foods that are high in fiber and can help contribute to a healthy gut microbiome and healthy skin.
berries like blueberries
Blueberries are one of the top foods that some experts believe you should be eating daily. One cup of blueberries contains almost 4g of fiber per cup. Blueberries are also low in sugar which can help support blood sugar balance. Blueberries are also high in Vitamin C which can help aid in brighter skin as well as hydration which is key to glowing skin. They also contain powerful antioxidants which aid in naturally healthy skin. I love blueberries as is, in a smoothie or topped on a salad.
flaxseed
Flaxseeds contains almost 3g of fiber per tbsp which makes flaxseeds a great source of fiber. Flaxseeds also contain something called lignans which contain antioxidant, phytoestrogenic and anti-inflammatory properties which can promote hydrated and glowing skin. Lignans may also help protect against sun damage, making them a great addition to smoothies and salads in the Spring and Summer.
kale
Kale is a good source of fiber as 2 cups contains almost 3g of fiber. Kale also contains chlorophyll which contains antioxidant properties which can aid in healthy glowing skin. Kale is also high in Vitamin A and C which are essential for collagen production and cell turnover for healthy skin. Kale is simple to add to your daily routine. You can simply add a few leaves to a berry smoothie or a green smoothie, add to sautéed vegetables or use as a base for salads.
chia seeds
1 tablespoon of chia seeds contains almost 5g of fiber. This makes it a great source of fiber. Chia seeds are also a complete source of protein which supports collagen production, hydration and skin repair. Chia seeds are also known to boost hydration which is essential for skin health. They also contain omega 3’s which is essential to achieving glowing skin. Chia seeds can be easily added to smoothie and oatmeal.
lentils
Just 1 cup of cooked lentils contains about 16g of fiber which makes them a great source of fiber. Lentils contain protein plus essential vitamins and minerals to help promote healthy glowing skin. They also contain polyphenols which are known to have anti-inflammatory effects to support the gut microbiome which is key to healthy skin. They are also a great source of antioxidants which can protect against sun damage. Lentils can be easily added to a salad, added to soup or used as a base for roasted veggie bowls.
One of my favorite ways to use lentils is the Lentil Beauty Tacos from my Glow From Within Guide. There are over 90 seasonal recipes in this guide, many of which contain these ingredients to help you glow from the inside out. Check it out here.
