7 Habits To Add To Your Life To “Glow Up” This Summer As A Mom

Gone are the days of exhausting yourself with extreme fitness and restrictive diet programs before the start of Summer. Since becoming a mom, I no longer care so much about having a certain body image before summer. For me, getting Summer ready means implementing essential habits that help me to feel my best from the inside out. Body composition is just a natural result of taking care of your mind body in soul in a nourishing way. You don’t need extremes, you just need to start making small lifestyle shifts.

The real “glow up” happens when you begin taking care of yourself little by little in holistic ways.

Below are my essentials to achieving that natural “glow”.

When I talk about the natural “glow”, I am not only talking about glowing skin but the natural glow around you when you are feeling your absolute best. There is a natural glow that happens when you are less stressed, feeling more positive and feeling good from taking care of yourself through nutrition and fitness.

start going out for daily walks

This is one of the most life changing habits that I have sworn by for years for better energy, weight management as well as weight loss, better mood, better sleep, better productivity and more. Walks don’t have to be 10,000 steps to be beneficial. Even just a 10-20 minute walk is effective. I love walking as a mom because it is a simple habit that can be done with kids in tow. If you find that fitting in a workout is difficult most days, then start implementing a daily walk. Just don’t forget your non toxic sunscreen before you head out the door.

prioritize seasonal produce

Mother Earth provides us with specific fruits, vegetables, and herbs throughout the year, ensuring that our bodies receive the necessary nutrients during each season. Sticking to in season produce is a great way to ensure that you are receiving the benefits you need to support your skin health, gut health, immune system and more. For example, watermelon benefits hydration levels during the hotter months; tomatoes help to protect against UV damage and peppers help to reduce inflammation. Eating in season is also a great way to save money if you are eating on a budget.

infuse your waters with fresh fruit

Infusing your water is a great way to make hydration more enjoyable as well as supply your body with additional vitamins and minerals throughout the day. Hydration is key for a healthy gut microbiome which is necessary for getting that natural glow from the inside out.

add in probiotic rich foods

Probiotic rich foods are a great way to support your body’s gut microbiome. A healthy gut microbiome is necessary for healthy skin, immune function, cognitive health, energy and more. Foods like sauerkraut, kefir, kimchi, probiotic rich yogurt, pickles as well as other fermented foods are simple to add into your daily routine for extra health and wellness support.

limit caffeine

As a mom I know how easy it can be to rely on caffeine as your go to source of energy, especially after a sleepless night. However, caffeine can be an irritant for the digestion and it can be a root cause for anxiety. By limiting caffeine you might be helping to support your digestion and stress levels- two key components to feeling and looking your best from the inside out. You don’t have to cut out caffeine to live healthier but I do suggest finding simple ways to limit your intake. For example, try matcha a few days a week or try half caff coffee.

focus on high fiber content in your meals

Fiber is necessary for a healthy and flourishing gut microbiome. When your digestion is thriving you will notice a difference in your skin, hair, nails, mood, energy, immune system, productivity levels and more. Check out this blog post here for my favorite high fiber foods. Fiber rich foods are a great way to support your overall health.

create a night routine

De-stressing is essential for healthy digestion, which as mentioned previously is important for glowing from the inside out. Night time is a great time to practice de-stressing. Create a wind down routine for yourself after your kids go to bed. Choose simple habits like reading and meditation that can help to calm your mind and help you to decompress from the day.
