Postpartum Snickers Energy Balls
If there is one thing that I know is helpful postpartum, it’s meal prepping essentials to keep my energy steady and my body full at all times. I try to focus on meal prepping items that are:
supportive for lactation
balanced with protein, fiber and healthy fats
easy grab and go options that keep me energized
These Postpartum Snickers Energy Balls check all of those boxes for me. They are not only a great sweet treat to have postpartum (or anytime), but they also contains vitamins and nutrients to support your body postpartum.
I especially love that these contain both oats and flax meal. Oats are one of my favorite foods to include postpartum because they are rich in fiber and complex carbohydrates which help support steady energy levels. They are also commonly used to help support milk supply for breastfeeding moms.
Flax meal is another ingredient that I love for postpartum and lactation support because it contains healthy fats, fiber and nutrients that help support recovery and nourishment after birth.
Meal prep these to have on hand for a quick and easy grab and go snack!
What you need:
1 1/3 cup rolled oats
2 servings chocolate protein powder (I used this one here!)
2 tbsp flax meal
4 tbsp maple syrup
10-12 pitted dates (soak in hot water for about 10-20 minutes if your dates aren’t soft)
A pinch of sea salt
1/2 cup peanut butter (option to substitute for almond butter or sunflower butter)
1/3 cup chocolate chips
Directions:
Add the oats, protein powder, flax meal, maple syrup, dates, sea salt and peanut butter to a food processor and blend until the mixture becomes sticky and combined. Fold in the chocolate chips and roll into bite sized balls. You can also add all of the ingredients (leaving out the chocolate chips till the end) to a bowl and mash with your hands (it’s messier but it gets the job done!)
Store in the freezer. When you’re ready to eat just let it sit for a few minutes to thaw!
